Valerie K. Kounkel, DO

Dr. Valerie Kounkel received her medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internship at the Henry Ford Health System-Riverside Osteopathic Hospital in Trenton, MI and her residency in Ophthalmology at Ohio University-Doctors Hospital in Columbus, OH.
Dr. Kounkel is a member of the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology,  American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Osteopathic Association, the Polk County Medical Society and is a fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. She is President of the Des Moines Ophthalmic Society and is also a clinical instructor for Des Moines University and the University of Iowa.
Dr. Kounkel has been performing laser vision correction and cataract surgery since 2000. She is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kounkel performs Cataract Surgery using new technology intraocular lenses, Laser Vision Correction and Glaucoma Laser Surgery.
