Professional Statement
Dr. Fustino earned a degree in Chemistry from Wake Forest University and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Massachusetts. There he earned the Jacob Brem award for academic excellence and service in pediatrics. He completed residency in pediatrics at Eastern Virginia Medical School (Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters) and fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern (Children’s Medical Center of Dallas). His laboratory research experience involved studying the molecular biology of germ cell tumors. His clinical interests include germ cell tumors, LCH and histiocytic disorders, sickle cell disease, and other anemias. As a certified patient experience professional and patient experience physician champion for UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, he is also interested in patient perceptions of medical care. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, sports, and music.
